The much anticipated first single to Kanye and Jay-Z’sWatch The Throne album. And surprisingly, Lex Luger is behind the production for the track. Lex has definitely skyrocketed to stardom in the producer world since blowing up with last summer’s “B.M.F.” And “Hustle Hard” is gaining momentum as well. This track is very not like what was probably expected from Jigga or Yeeezy. And the “opera” type vocals within the hook and outro is very unexpected of Lex. Listen to the track below…
The video for Monster just leaked (definitely not the real release, the audio is terrible and there’s random watermarks that pop up) and holy shit Kanye. Now I’m not going to even pretend to “get this,” cause it’s pretty messed up, but at the same time it’s really creative and impressive. It’s definitely going to grab attention and critical praise. Basically you need to see this, but don’t watch if you don’t like dead women and close ups of Kanye’s diamond teeth. Highlights during my first viewing: 1:05 is hilarious, Jay-Z is boring, Ye’s outfit at 3:25 is fucking swag. Nicki Minaj steals the show here in a schizophrenic display starting at around 3:40. She gives herself a lapdance, if that’s something you might be interested in. I’m pretty sure this is NSFW, just the heads up.

To be completely honest I didn’t know what to expect judging from the title, and I’m sure the depressing instrumental and odd chorus just adds to the slight confusion…not really the song paints exactly what they are portraying music of today. Definitely not a Renegade caliber track in my opinion, but it’s still a worthy record to add to the archive.
This shit looks like THRILLER IN 2010! Highly anticipated and soon to be highly scrutinized, I’m sure, the aesthetics to coincide with the super collabed smash “Monster” is undoubtedly on its ways, as here we are welcoming the visual preview, which proves to be nothing short of “interesting.” Definitely has Kanye written all over it. My guess is they might be forced to shoot two styles as it appears the original just might indeed be too hot for TV. Stay tuned for the final product.

Jay-Z is deservedly everywhere these days. Might as well deal with it. In a recent sit down with MTV’s Sway, the best in the game discloses a bit on the joint project between himself and little brother, Kanye. Dubbing it as “on another level,” the EP turned LP is most definitely one of the more anticipated collaborative works ever. Expect nothing short of greatness.
“It’s obvious that he really genuinely loves it and is a student of rap and the game,” he said of Jay Electronica during a conversation with Sway about Hova’s new book “Decoded,” which hits stores on Tuesday (November 16). “You can’t write those sort of songs or come to that sort of conclusion without having a deep love for what you’re doing and a deep understanding and a deep drive.”

On the promotional trail of Decoded, Jay-Z visited David Letterman‘s show. He spoke with Letterman about the Reagan era inspired the evolution of hip hop back in the 80′s and his younger years starting out in hip hop and selling drugs. While he did answer Letterman’s questions, Jay-Z seemed less forthcoming in this interview than other recent promo I’ve seen recently; I’m willing to bet that Jay wasn’t a fan of Letterman’s interview angle.

On Thursday, Gucci revealed two of the pages in the windows of its Fifth Avenue flagship, printed on the lining of a one-of-kind leather bomber jacket designed by creative director Frida Giannini. “Authority was turned upside down,” he writes. Kids his age began selling crack to pay their mothers’ electric bills. They were armed with automatic weapons. Jay-Z started hustling crack at 13, and eventually would have his own crew in Trenton, NJ, and later in Maryland. He was still writing rhymes, but he made his living slinging crack. And he would spend the rest of his life writing about the more than 13 years he spent dealing drugs. * His First Arrest
Jay-Z’s first arrest came at age 16. He was dealing in Trenton, because his friend “Hill” had a supplier there. Hill had enrolled in the local high school, and one day when Jay-Z went to meet him, he got caught with crack in his pockets on the campus. Since he had no prior arrests, the police let him go, but they confiscated his supply. In order to make up the cash to the supplier, Jay-Z had to go back to Marcy and deal crack 60 hours straight — three days in a row, he writes. He kept awake by “eating cookies and writing rhymes on the back of brown paper bags.” Even though he was still dealing drugs, whenever Jay-Z came back to New York he met with his friend Jaz, another rhymer, and the two would lock themselves in a room “with a pen, a pad, and some Apple Jacks and Haagen Dazs.” Jaz got a record deal with EMI in 1989, and Jay-Z took note when the record company dropped his friend after his single flopped. “I thought to myself, ‘This business sucks.’ No honor, no integrity; it was disgusting. In some ways it was worse than the streets.” Jay-Z learned from that experience and started his own label, Roc-a-fella, in 1994, with Damon Dash and Kareem “Biggs” Burke. Full Story: NY Post
Ok, so alot of these are pretty good choices for “decoding”. Who wouldn’t like to hear the stories behind “Early This Morning” and “Coming of Age”, or the inspiration for some of the lines in “PSA” or “Moment of Clarity”? But WHAT DO YOU MEAN no “You Must Love Me”?! What’s the point of even doing the book if you’re not gonna break down that song? Then again, I guess if we’re being realistic, how deep is Jay really going to get into anything that may have happened to inspire this music.
